More updates on the chalet trail

The chalet is my winter bedroom. Actually, since the demise of the tent. It’s my year round bedroom. I love it.

Now its also 200 feet from my washroom. So last year I cheerfully hiked off through blizzard and snow. It was no problem. In fact. I love it. But. I am a guy. I am regular.

So this year I added a new feature to my off grid camp. It’s a girlfriend. Hey guys, guess what. The girlfriend doesn’t think hiking to the washroom in the middle of the night during a blizzard is romantic. Or fun. Or something she is prepared to do.

So how do I keep my friend happy?

Yup. Indoor 5 gallon bucket straw toilet

I know. I’m the last of the big hearted romantics. This is my test toilet. I’ve since done a nicer job.

But the key here is bokashi. The bokashi cover blend keeps the odors down to a minimum. In fact to zero. This is a no odor toilet.

And the girlfriend can get up in the middle of the night and do whatever she pleases. All warm and happy.

Heck, I even threw in a washbasin and towel

Wash up. Dry. What will I add to the chalet next.

I’ve actually improved this since then. I got a real washbasin made out of glass to replace the cooking pot. Well. I need that pot for cooking.
