More updates on the chalet trail
The chalet is my winter bedroom. Actually, since the demise of the tent. It’s my year round bedroom. I love it.
Now its also 200 feet from my washroom. So last year I cheerfully hiked off through blizzard and snow. It was no problem. In fact. I love it. But. I am a guy. I am regular.
So this year I added a new feature to my off grid camp. It’s a girlfriend. Hey guys, guess what. The girlfriend doesn’t think hiking to the washroom in the middle of the night during a blizzard is romantic. Or fun. Or something she is prepared to do.
So how do I keep my friend happy?

Hanging it up in the closet
I had thought to put a closet in the chalet. While I was worried it would make the bedroom feel small, I ended up putting in two. One for clothes and another for the toilet.
This closet doesn’t have doors.
Chalet hits 98% complete
Well, I’m happy to report that the chalet is about 98% done. Still some bits and bobs. Caulking. Few siding pieces either to be trimmed or added to. Nothing urgent though.

This is a pic of the gun I’ve been using for the last two years, or is it three, and it illustrates one of the key Creeky top tip appliances for off grid.

Shou sugi ban tests with 2 updates
Well. In this exciting post I turn perfectly good white cedar boards into crispy Shou sugi ban siding.
Shou sugi ban is the Japanese technique of burning cedar planks to make a long lasting maintenance free siding.
It’s a slow process though. As you can watch in this video.

The winter chalet is proving out nicely. Even with the coldest winter in 40 years, incomplete, unsided, hacked in windows: it’s warm and comfy. Happiness is a warm blanket.

My camp build started as a dream
The dream was to create a writer’s paradise. I wanted a tiny writer’s cabin with a window that had lots of panes of glass. This window would look out over water. You wouldn’t sit at a table, you would lie in a bed.
What a great dream
